Pony Cake topper

Made this one for my little girl while we were on vacation.  She had to have a "horse" cake.  I must say, it was a bit difficult working without my tools.

Care Bear Cake

This was a massive cake.  It consisted of three layers, an 8" a 12" and a 16".  It was a simple white cake with vanilla frosting.....and there was plenty to go around.  This was ordered in a Care Bear theme for a special little girl named Ava who was turning one.  Although I originally would have opted for light blue to resemble the sky...the mother wanted lavender, and I must say the outcome surprised me.  It suited the cake well and made it more feminine.  Each layer was decorated with butter cream clouds, care bear figures and stars around the edges.  The top was also adorned with several clouds, bears, gifts for the birthday girl, a rainbow and the number 1.....and it weighed a TON.  Had to have my husband carry it to the van when I went to deliver it.

Spring Personalized Cake

This was a drunken cherry cake covered with chocolate ganache and decorated with a simple white fondant and an assortment of pink and peach spring flowers.  To contrast the black plate, we used a bright pink tinted fondant on top of black with a stitch like pattern for the personalization and added bright pink ribbon decor at the bottom of the cake.

Spring Almond Torte

I made several Almond Tortes with simple spring like decoration ideas.  These cakes served as "Thank you" gifts.  All the taste without too much decor.  The first shows several Calla Lilly's made from gumpaste and the bottom two images reflect pink and peach flowers also made from fondant.

Real Estate (House) Cake

This cake was a rush order.  I am always up for a challenge, so I agreed to do it.  I had 24 hours to plan, bake and decorate a cake....and maybe squeeze some sleep in there as well.  This was ordered as a gift from a wife to a husband for his thirtieth birthday.  I was told he was a very dedicated real estate agent/broker who spent most of his time working hard for the money.  He made his daily Starbucks run to ensure he had enough energy to tackle any and all obstacles he would face that day.  I will tell you, I have much respect for anyone in the real estate business in this economy...I can only imagine how tough their job is right now.

We wanted to ensure the cake reflects this man's dedication to his career so thus the theme.  The house is a massive English style home (it is similar to the one I grew up in....so it reflects the cake baker a bit to. I was given freedom to create, and I couldn't help myself:) ) The SOLD sign is to show that he is committed to getting the job done.  He also sits by a laptop, holding his Starbucks coffee....this is to show that he is working and keeping tabs on everything as soon as he starts drinking his morning cup of Jo.  The other corner shows an overflowing file folder of properties he has sold and a small pile of MLS listings he is ready to show additional clients.  The third corner shows his briefcase overflowing with money...this is to wish him much SUCCESS in all his endeavors and wish him abundant financial blessings for his birthday.  It took me 13 hours to make the cake from start to finish...all in one day....so tomorrow, I will spend as much time AWAY from my kitchen as possible.

Happy 30th Birthday Taras!

Super Mario Cake

This cake was definitely an adventure....as I only have faint memories of the Mario on Nintendo when I was growing up.  So as I sat there doing "research" on the computer my husband couldn't help but poke fun at me.  As I saved pictures of these characters to my folder, I couldn't help but get excited.

This was definitely a FUN cake to do....and it got tough, I asked my son (the expert) for help.  All in all I am happy with the results.  The pipe on top says 6 up to reflect the age the young boy was turning and the back said "Super Sergio" because the cake was for a boy named Serge.

Happy Birthday Serge!  Enjoy the photos everyone.

Father's Day Fishing Cake

This was a special cake for me as I made it for my husband, so it reflected things that are special to him.  It shows him and my two sons fishing at a local park.  The father figure sits reading from the Bible to his boys teaching them to become fishers of men.  As the older son sits listening intently, the younger one practices his skills with the rod.  As you will notice on one of the photos the hook actually holds a worm on it.  This attention is credited to my older son, he is very detail oriented and said the cake just would not be complete without it.

I am proud to say that my husband enjoyed the cake very much....inside and out.  And to all of the fathers out there....may you be blessed.  You have a very difficult job, you have been entrusted with the a child or children to guide and to mould into men and woman that will lead the future generation.  May you be blessed with patience and wisdom and may your children grow to make you very proud.

Happy Father's Day!

Old Fashioned Photography/Film Cake

This was made for a couple's joint birthday party from the wife to the husband....so the theme reflected the gentleman's interest in photography.  The topper was an old fashioned case filled with film cases.  The middle layer had old Kodak film canisters and the bottom had film cassettes on the back two corners, a stitched Happy Birthday sign and a couples sitting down.  The man held his camera as the lady sat posing with a rose and her hat.

Normally I cover the cake in fondant, however the Rafaello cake calls to be covered in shredded coconut, and tastes much better that way, so it was decided to keep the cake in it's original form.  It is one of the less sweet cakes I offer as the fresh raspberries add a little bit of tartness to the filling.

Enjoy the photos.

LUGGAGE CAKES

These were made for friends who were going on extended trip overseas, to wish them luck.  The suitcase is chocolate and white cake with coffee creme and walnuts, moistened with Kahlua and frosted with chocolate ganache.  The pink and brown purses are chocolate cake, moistened with cognac and frosted with chocolate ganache.

"HAT" CAKE FOR A SPECIAL LITTLE LADY

I made a special order cake this weekend for a little girls birthday.  Her mother wanted her to have a pink lady's hat cake.  The little princess was turning 5, so I decided to make the hat with a huge bow and lots of flowers, and place it on a lower layer that would look like the hat is sitting on the grass.  I remember when I was a little girl, I would love running in the field and collecting little daisies to make wreaths for my hair....so that memory served as inspiration for the cake.  Enjoy the photos.
